iRECS4393 Invitation for GR Supervisors to Participate in Research

Dear supervisors, 

Research Study Title: Understanding HDR candidate-supervisor relationship challenges (Phase 2)

Researchers at UNSW are conducting a project about the workplace relationship issues commonly arising between Higher Degree Research (HDR) candidates and their supervisors, and how these issues are managed within Australian universities. Supervisors at The University of Melbourne are being invited to take part. Participation in this research is not a requirement of your employment.

Taking part in this research study is optional and you may choose not to take part. Your decision to participate, or not, will have no impact on your employment.

If you are interested the research project is looking for people who want to take part in this research and who are:

  • aged 18 years of age or older
  • currently employed as an academic supervisor of one or more Higher Degree Research (HDR) candidates (ie undertaking Masters by research, PhD or Professional Doctorate) at one of the 10 participating universities
  • currently located in Australia

If you decide to take part in the research, a full description of the research is included in the participant information statement and consent form. A copy can be downloaded from the project webpage. You will be asked to complete the following research activities:

  • Online survey that will take approximately 25-30 mins to complete.
  • At the end of the online survey, participants will be invited to indicate their interest in participating in an interview that will take approximately 30-45 mins to complete.
