1.Congratulations to out 2026 Early Career Research Grant recipients

Dr Keiko Bostwick and Dr Sean Marshall are the FoE recipients of the UoM ECR Grants commencing in 2026

Dr Bostwick (Assessment & Evaluation Research Centre) was awarded funding for her project “The Role of Quantitative Methods in Indigenous Education Projects’

Dr Sean Marshall (Learning Interventions) was awarded funding for his project “Exploring Resolution Valence in Youth: Evidence and Expert Perspectives”

2. Congratulations to our 2026 Research Impetus Grant Recipient

Dr Katherine Canobi (Research in Effective Education in Early Childhood Centre) was awarded the 2026 Research Impetus Grant.

3. Congratulations- New Frontiers In Research Funding Awarded

Congratulations to Profs Oades, Rickard, Vella-Brodrick and Dr Francis for being part of the grant bid that was successfully awarded New Frontiers in Research Funding (Canada) with their colleagues for “Improving wellbeing programs’ efficacy: Using adaptive AI to assess and foster wellbeing literacy”

5. Proof-of-Concept Funding for Social Impact – EOI  Closing 22nd September

The University of Melbourne and Tanarra Social Purpose invite Expressions of Interest from researchers developing high-impact solutions to pressing social challenges in Australia and globally. We’re seeking ideas ready to take the next step in developing solutions to challenges  in areas such as youth wellbeing, housing security and environmental sustainability.

Offered

  • Proof-of-Concept? Funding: Up to $50,000 to validate the potential of your idea to become a viable product, service or social venture.
  • In-Kind Advisory: Access to strategic, operational, and/or financial advisory services from Tanarra Social Purpose, a leading advisory firm helping Australian social purpose organisations become more efficient and effective. Scope of advice to be agreed directly with you if your application is successful.

Looking For

  • Impact Potential: Clear articulation of the social problem and the potential for meaningful change.
  • Innovation: Novelty and creativity in approach or solution design.
  • Feasibility: A realistic plan for development within 12 months.
  • Team Capability: Demonstrated commitment and relevant expertise.
  • Sustainability: Ability to deliver to beneficiaries and potential for financial sustainability and growth.

6. GRs and GR Supervisors – iThenticate Reminder

A reminder to supervisors that graduate researchers must use iThenticate at key points during their candidature. This straightforward text-matching tool reviews the originality of research writing drafts (such as manuscripts and theses) against an extensive database of research literature to identify potential instances of problematic matching text. Access iThenticate here.

Graduate researchers must use iThenticate in preparation for both confirmation and submission, and share similarity reports with their supervisors and Chair of Examiners. 7. Roundtable to discuss a University of Melbourne Child Rights Academic Network

University of Melbourne researchers working on matters concerning children (at any stage of their career from Professors to PhD students) with an interest in the intersection between their research and children’s rights, are invited to a roundtable to discuss the creation of a Child Rights Academic Network.

Be part of a conversation to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, information sharing, mentoring and peer support among colleagues who share a commitment to use their research to advance the rights and well-being of children and young people (from 0-18 years of age) within Australia and abroad.
