2.Call for applications: 2025 MMT (Manchester-Melbourne-Toronto) alliance research seed fund
Closing date: 3 June 2am
Researchers from The University of Manchester, the University of Melbourne and the University of Toronto are invited to submit proposals by 3 June (Melbourne time) for joint research projects for funding up to approximately £21K (9K GBP/15K AUD/14K CAD per institution).
Up to 15 joint research projects will be funded and proposals are open to all research areas and faculties.
The overall aim of the MMT Research Fund is to encourage and provide initial support for the development of high-quality research activities that include Early Career Researchers (ECRs). Funding is available from each of the three institutions to develop bilateral or trilateral research projects. The Fund seeks to support proposals that will lead to long-term research collaborations with a view to enabling principal investigators (PIs) to subsequently apply for external funding to support the next phase of their joint research.
Further information is available on the scheme’s webpage.
3. 2025 Australia-Germany Joint Research Cooperation Scheme (UA-DAAD)
The 2025 application round will open on 2 April 2025 and close on 12 June 2025
The scheme is a joint initiative of Universities Australia and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). It fosters research collaboration and supports exchanges of researchers from member universities to spend time at partner institutions in Germany, and for collaborating German researchers to spend time at Australian universities.
Researchers must be working on a joint research project with their German counterparts, rather than furthering their individual research in Germany. The inclusion of early career researchers (ECRs) is a significant focus of this scheme.
There are two changes on the German side which Australian applicants will need to be aware of:
- Project applications on the German side must involve the mobility of early career researchers.
- Projects applications on the German side must envisage two participants or more travelling to the partner institution as part of the project.
This year, in addition to the UA external application form, applicants will need to submit a short SmartyGrants application in lieu of the Themis Submission, as well as a Faculty Certification Form and if applicable, an Honorary Declaration Form.
- The external Universities Australia application package is attached and is also available from the UA website.
Further information and all forms and links to the SmartyGrants portal can be obtained from the RDS UA-DAAD webpage.
