Upcoming Programs for GR Supervisors, GRs & Researchers by the Research Development Unit

Supervisor Development Series: Avoiding Data Disasters: A Supervisor’s Guide to Managing Research Data

Welcome to the next workshop in the monthly Supervision Development Series.

Don’t know where your student’s data is? Don’t know which systems your student should use for their data workflows? Graduate researchers rely on their supervisors to teach them the necessary skills to thrive during their candidature and beyond, and research data management skills should be at the forefront. From planning their project to data analysis, milestone reviews, and publication, research data management is often an afterthought for many graduate researchers. This can potentially leave supervisors unaware of where their students’ data is or whether they have access to it.

We invite supervisors to reflect on their own data management practices and learn how to best support their graduate students in safeguarding their data.

3:00pm – 4:00pm Monday, 9 September

Are you working on your PhD and have not yet crafted a PhD project plan? Do you have timelines and goals assigned to you from your PhD supervisors/program directors, which you think you might struggle with? Do you feel overwhelmed with everything that the PhD program requires you to do?

These workshops will enable you to develop organisational, technical, and problem-solving skills and project management competencies that enhance your abilities to respond to emerging challenges and possibilities during your candidature and beyond your PhD journey.

Personal Effectiveness at Work and Study: What to do about imposter syndrome

Does anybody not have it? We talk about ‘imposter syndrome’ all the time, but what is it really? Do you have it? Do you feel like it is getting in the way of your research and maybe even your career?

In this monthly series, Dr Angela Nicholas, Senior Research Fellow in the Centre for Mental Health and Community Wellbeing will facilitate interactive workshops discussing strategies and hacks for how you can work smart during your postgraduate research years and keep a life outside.

1pm – 2pm Tuesday, 17 September
