These lectures are being held as part of the ‘International Doctoral Colloquium for the History & Epistemology of Education’. Hosted at the University of Melbourne for the first time in 2024, this annual colloquium brings together scholars from across the globe to share research spanning the history, philosophy, and sociology of education. Arising from collaborations among the academic convenors, the colloquium is designed as a forum to support doctoral students and provide advanced research training. It features presentations from graduate and postdoctoral researchers, with more senior scholars serving as facilitators and discussants. The colloquium thus provides a platform for emerging scholars to present and develop ideas within a vibrant international community.
The four-day program also has a range of connected events, including public lectures, cultural activities, receptions and networking opportunities. The international consortium of universities which take part are the University of Vienna, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, USA, Aalborg University, Denmark, and the University of Melbourne.
The University of Melbourne convenor is Prof Julie McLeod. The 2024 colloquium will be held in the Faculty of Education from Wednesday September 4 to Saturday September 7th. Faculty of Education doctoral students will be presenting, along with several postdoctoral scholars, with participating academics from the Faculty contributing to the seminar discussions and mentoring. Colleagues and graduate students from across the Faculty of Education are welcome to attend the public lectures and associated events.
