Moderated by The Smith Family’s CEO Doug Taylor, webinar speakers (Christine Cawsey, Anne Hampshire, Dr Anthony Mann and Professor Jennifer Westacott) will offer an insightful and practical look at how individuals, organisations and sectors can support more young people to achieve success at school and beyond.

Higher educational attainment is associated with positive social and economic outcomes across a person’s life. These include higher income, wider occupational choice, better health, and stronger community connections. Yet one in four young Australians aren’t completing Year 12 or its equivalent, with that proportion unfortunately higher for young people experiencing disadvantage. For many of these young people, early school leaving can affect their post-school pathways, with potentially long-term consequences for their economic and social participation. A panel of diverse speakers will explore new national and international research on the contemporary experiences of young people moving through and beyond high school, and into their adult years. Drawing on The Smith Family’s multi-year research with over 2,000 young Australians, the webinar will also look at the pathways of young people experiencing disadvantage. Speakers will offer insights on how we can support more young people to complete Year 12 or its equivalent and create positive post-school pathways. This will include the key role that careers support plays.
