Once you’re enrolled, we will send you a Zoom invite to this workshop. Check your uni email account on the morning of your workshop to find a Zoom invitation.
This workshop, co-delivered by Academic Skills and Counselling and Psychological Services, is intended for students in the early stages of their Masters by Research or PhD candidature. The workshop covers topics that represent the most important tasks of early stage candidature (pre-confirmation). There will be time during the workshop for questions and answers.
The topics include:
• Establishing first year goals and managing the initial stage of your candidature
• Developing and maintaining habits to prioritise your wellbeing and support work-life balance
• Psychological strategies to build resilience and sustain yourself for the research journey
• Learning to manage your reading load
• Refining your research questions/topics and establishing research methodology/approach
• Developing an effective supervisor-student relationship
• Joining the research community
FOR GR SUPERVISORS
New way to access your graduate research information and tasks.
The new dashboards will be available today! To access them please log into StudentOne via https://staff.unimelb.edu.au/students-teaching/studentone and click on the Graduate Research Students tab.
You will be able to find your candidature tasks and upcoming progress reviews on the new Graduate Research Student Forms Dashboard which includes Assigned forms for Action and Your Current Progress Review Forms. You will continue to receive your weekly digest emails on Thursday mornings when you have tasks or upcoming progress reviews, but you no longer need to wait to receive this or go back through old emails to find the links.
A second, Graduate Research Student Supervisor Dashboard, with Your Current Supervisions has also been created for you to access the Student Overview information for all graduate researchers for whom you have an active supervisory or advisory committee role assigned on StudentOne.

Please note that graduate research thesis examination related tasks and information will remain in the separate Thesis Examination System (TES) and can be accessed here.
GR Supervisor Development Series
The aim is to empower, educate, and celebrate the art of supervision. Whether you’re an experienced supervisor or just starting your journey, these sessions are designed to help you stay current with University policy and best practice, to enhance your skills, and connect with fellow supervisors. Sessions alternate between in-person meetings in Parkville and virtual Zoom sessions.
Next session is on Dimensions of international supervision scheduled for Monday 15 April 9-11.30 at Graduate House.
