AEUIFAI Fellowships Application Process 2024

The Australian European Union Institute Fellowships Association Inc. is now calling for applications for fellowships for the 2024-25 EUI Academic Year. The AEUIFAI was established in 1995 in order to facilitate the presence of Australian researchers at European University Institute at Fiesole, just outside Florence, Italy. The EUI is the high-level research institute founded in 1972 by the European Community Member States to provide advanced academic training to PhD students and to promote research at the highest level. It now hosts a number of important research centres, including Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies.

Applications are due at 23.55 on Sunday 3 March 2024 (AEST)

For the 2024-25 EUI Academic Year the Fellowships available are:

  • Postgraduate: $8,000 one-off payment (for travel and subsistence) and EUI fees, currently 750 euros for 3 months.
  • Postdoctorate: $14,000 one-off payment (for travel and subsistence) and EUI fees, currently 3000 euros for 6 months.
  • Visiting Scholars: $3,000 (for travel and subsistence) and EUI fees, currently 1500 euros for 1 month.

The selection of successful applications is part of a two-part process.

Applications are considered by an Australian selection committee, chaired by the AEUIFAI Secretary or a member of the Association chosen by the Secretary and the President. The selection committee evaluates and ranks the applicants. This process takes place in March.

A short-list of candidates decided by the Australian committee then goes to the EUI for final selection, based on opportunities for meaningful supervision and office space. This takes place in April or May.

The EUI decision is followed by ratification by the Australian committee and notification of outcomes in June. The selection committee reserves the right not to offer fellowships if no suitable applications or EUI supervision can be found.

Successful Postgraduate applicants will take up their fellowship from September to December in the northern academic year. Successful Postdoctoral applicants will take up their fellowships in January to June. Successful Visiting Scholars will take up their one-month fellowship between January and June.
