For MGSE input by COB 12 July: National Industry PhD Program – draft guidelines consultation
The Commonwealth Department of Education is seeking feedback on draft program guidelines for the new National Industry PhD Program (Program), expected to commence this year. The Program is part of the Increase Workforce Mobility initiative, alongside the three new ARC Industry Fellowships programs, under the Commonwealth University Research Commercialisation Action Plan.
The Program comprises two streams, providing PhD candidates with the opportunity to undertake a research project with a potential industry application, and equipping candidates with the skills and experience to work at the interface of university and industry research sectors. They are:
- Industry Linked PhD stream: This stream is for outstanding PhD Candidates to undertake research projects co-designed by university and industry, with potential opportunities to be embedded in an industry setting.
- Industry Researcher PhD stream: This stream is for highly capable industry professionals who are supported by their employers to undertake PhD projects in partnership with a university.
If you wish to provide feedback, please send your comments to mgse-grants@unimelb.edu.au by close of business Tuesday 12 July 2022 so that we can compile an MGSE response.
In addition to the draft guidelines, for your reference, the Department has provided two other documents – one on the funding amounts, sources, and recipients for the National Industry PhD Program; the other on the industry research fellowships and PhD streams under the Action Plan.
