Further Update on the Recent Graduate Research Application Round

Dear Supervisors

Following from our 19 October update on the Graduate Research Application Round for round 1 2023, the outcomes from the research proposal review are as follows:

  • 37 applications were short listed – one withdrew as they accepted an offer from another university. These applicants’ research proposals were reviewed and scored by academic members of the GR Subcommittee and a representative from the Early Career Academic Committee and the Mid-Career Academic committee.
  • 26 progressed to the next stage and the offer process has commenced. 10 were unsuccessful. All 10 unsuccessful applicants will receive a short explanation of the reasons for the rejection, and are encouraged to re-apply with an improved application or proposal.
  • Assessment sheets for the applicants that progressed to the next stage are being emailed to the principal supervisors to complete and to be returned to the MERI-GR team within 2 weeks. Such a short turn-around enables us to offer additional scholarships for domestic applicants from the 2022 scholarship pool, and provides sufficient time for international applicants to prepare for commencement in January 2023.
  • Once the MERI-GR team have received the completed Assessment sheets they can proceed with making offers to the successful applicants.
  • The scholarship offers are available to full-time GRs and will be announced in late November -December
