Upcoming FoE Seminars for Graduate Researchers and Supervisors
Dear FoE Graduate Researchers, Supervisors and Committee Chairs,
We will be running a number of information sessions this year for GRs, supervisors and chairs on key milestones and other relevant information. See below for details.
Please also download the Faculty of Education Graduate Research Orientation Guide. While this guide has been given to newly commencing GRs it also contains valuable information for all current FoE GRs and supervisors.
Pre-confirmation and confirmation information session
Date: 1 – 2pm, Tuesday 17th June

Who for: GRs and supervisors
This session, run by ADGR A/Prof Peter Woelert and GR Coordinator A/Prof Vic Millar, will cover what is required for pre-confirmation and confirmation including:
- The role of the committee.
- What needs to be completed for each hurdle.
- The completion seminar.
- What should happen in pre-confirmation and confirmation meetings.
Information session for new and existing GR Committee Chairs
Date: 1 – 2pm, Thursday 19th June

This session, run by Prof Kylie Smith, is for new GR Committee Chairs as well as existing Chairs that would like to brush up on their understanding of the role.
Research Integrity information session

Who for: GRs
This session will cover common concerns and practical resources to help you conduct research responsibly. This session will be run by the Office of Research Ethics and Integrity (OREI) and will cover:
- What’s required to be an author?
- When is it OK to use AI in your research?
- Who do I talk to about ethics approval?

The Viva information session

Who for: GRs, supervisors and Chairs
This session, run by GR Coordinator A/Prof Vic Millar and ADGR A/Prof Peter Woelert, will cover the newly introduced Viva. Note that the Viva will only be a requirement for those doctoral candidates that enrolled after 1st January 2025. This session will cover:
- How the Viva works alongside other completion requirements.
- What the Viva involves.
- Who is involved in the Viva.
