The Theodore Fink Memorial Seminar in Australian Education – Closing Date Extended Until 13 May!

History

The Theodore Fink Education Endowment was set up by Mrs Hilda Elliott and Mr H. Roland Fink in 1956 as a memorial to their father, Theodore Fink, who was the Chairman of the Royal Commission on Technical Education in Victoria between 1899-1901 and of the Royal Commission on the University of Melbourne between 1902-4.

Use of funds

The University Trust Record stipulates that:

  • Trust funds can be used to assist with costs in organising a seminar on historical and/or comparative study of Australian education for the purpose of advancing education in Australia
  • The seminar must be held in Melbourne
  • The seminar must be titled The Theodore Fink Memorial Seminar in Australian Education. This must be included in any advertising or promotional materials and should precede any other title used.
  • Invitations must originate from the School, ideally from the Dean or his nominated representative, even if there are other sponsors / partners.

Expenses that can be covered

In 2022, up to $12,000 is available to support the seminar.   This can be used to fund:

  • Speaker fees, travel & accommodation
  • Venue hire
  • Seminar advertising
  • Catering costs

Other

  • Ideally the seminar would take place in the latter half of 2022 or early 2023.  
  • Expenditure will need to follow normal financial procedures. There is a separate account established for the Trust.

Application process

  • Applications are open from Monday 4 April and close Friday 13 May, 2022 at 11:59pm.
  • Applicants are to fill in the short application form available on Smartygrants at:  https://mgse.smartygrants.com.au/TheodoreFink2022
  • All applications will then be discussed with the Dean and Executive Director (or the delegates) for approval, to ensure the event falls within the scope of the Trust.
